A single space is experienced differently by each person who enters it. Yet each element within that space has its own character—its own voice. When brought together, these elements should be able to engage in a conversation with one another, creating a discourse within the space they occupy. This is a manipulated photograph, where the dialogue is open to interpretation—inviting an understanding of each element’s individuality without removing it from its rightful context. Some parts are far more visible than others, speaking loudly; others recede, quietly harmonizing with the space. Still, we cannot separate the purpose of the space from its origin—as a setting for the tea ceremony at its core.
"This piece is part 04 of my ongoing research into materials and spatial dynamics within the Japanese Tea House. In this work, multiple techniques converge, with dots and lines emerging as the dominant visual language. The central element is a photograph I extracted from a magazine and began manipulating - disassembling and reassembling it to explore its structural possibilities . From there, I traced the shadows and voids that appeared, drawing directly onto the altered image."
The resulting hand-drawn collage was created using ink on polyester paper and PVC.
Dimensions: 297 x 210mm
