The House for an Art Lover began as a design competition entry—an unrealised concept that didn’t progress beyond the submission stage for many years. Nevertheless, long after its creation, the ingenious vision of Charles Rennie Mackintosh was finally acknowledged. The original drawings were revived and brought to life through the efforts of engineer Graham Roxburgh. In this project, art, architecture, and interior design work in tandem, reflecting the unique and deeply collaborative vision of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh.
This piece captures one of the central elements of the interior: the beautifully crafted Art Nouveau piano, adorned with symbolic artwork on its sides.
"The detail of the piano is what truly captures one’s eye in the room. It was included in the original drawings by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. I chose not to emphasize the texture of the piano’s pure white structure, but instead allowed it to stand out against the shadows and surrounding interior elements. A pure form—a romantic gesture toward artistic vision."
This drawing was made in ink on regular paper.
Dimensions: 297 x 210 mm
